Cyrus William , while yet a youth, was apprenticed to learn the wheelwright trade. He later became an accomplished lumberman. Cyrus and Sarah were converted to the Mormon Church and baptized in 1843 in the Ossian East Branch of the church in New York . In 1846 they moved to Park Center, Michigan . Cyrus assumed the care of his mother and siblings after his father died. They returned to New York in 1851 . In 1856 , President Young authorized the use of handcarts in the journey west, the Card family joined Edmund Ellsworth in the first company, using a wagon and team. After arriving in Utah , the Cards settled in Farmington . In 1859 , Cyrus traveled to Cache Valley to stake out a home site. His son Charles Ora remained to build a cabin. Cyrus returned to Farmington for his family. In 1860 the Cards moved to Logan where they helped with the new settlement. In the meantime, Cyrus had entered into two polygamous marriages. He operated a sawmill that supplied lumber for both the Logan Tabernacle and the Logan Temple. He was on the high council and was a city councilman. He also helped establish the United Order in Logan. At his funeral, he was praised for his commitment and dedication to the gospel, his honesty, charitable works, peaceful nature, and thrifty character.
